Answer: Hi:) Depends, if you book online then your looking at about 700 baht upwards for a taxi for up to 4 people, if you wait until you get there and you barter hard then you can get a taxi for 350 baht (make sure you agree the price before) Never ever get in a taxi or tuk-tuk in phuket without agreing the price before. You also have two other options, firstly if you already have a hotel booked, e-mail them and ask how much they charge for a airport transfer. Some are cheap others are expensive, really depends where your staying. Secondly there is a bus from the airport but it will take you to phuket city, where you can either stay for a day (not much there worth seeing though) or get a bus to patong beach. This option will cost 150 baht per person and despite it taking more than 2 hours to get to patong this way, it's a good way of seeing the island and meeting the locals. Been to phuket 3 times and did it different each time, my advice is mail your hotel and if they are too epensive, wait until you get to the airport and then barter hard with the taxi guys, if they wont agree with a price your happy with move on to the next one, one will be sure to follow you and accept if your price is realistic. Have a good time in phuket, hope you enjoy it :)

Answer: Better to e-mail your Hotel and get them to arrange your transport any half decent hotel usually offers this service at around 750 Bhats for van taxis. I always do and the fare is usually 600 Bhat but that's for myself in a car to Patong. The grey coloured taxis at Phuket airport are run by the Phuket mafia and you'll be ripped off big time for sure.

Answer: dont bother with currency exchanges, you will lose too much... just notify your bank at home your travelling to Thailand, then up your daily withdrawal limit. you will be charged 150 baht for every 20,000 baht you withdraw from ATM machines. but you still get the onshore rate and its better than the booths usually because its the banks rate. just make sure you check your bank at home and how much they charge for you using your atm abroad. and always take out 20,000 per transaction to save the most.

I am traveling to Thailand and am planing on only going to Phuket, how is shopping there? can I buy as much with the same prices as Bangkok? can I find good deals on brand name clothes? Also how much would it cost for a taxi to my hotel in Panong? would it be cheaper to go with the hotel transfer?
Answer: Phuket is lovely with plenty of shopping, I think it should be enough for you. Bangkok may have plenty more shops but Phuket balances it out with the natural beauty and friendly locals. Shopping in Phuket is concentrated mainly in Patong area, with the local shopping as well as the newly opened Jungceylon. Phuket Town is also another area with Ocean department store and Robinsons. Over the weekend there is the flea market in town as well known as "thai rote" so you can let your taxi driver know, and always arrange with him to pick you up cos it might be hard to catch a cab there nowadays with the tourist crowd. THere is also Central FEstival in town. Good idea would be to go to Central Festival during the day and head to flea market in the evening (only weekends though) as they are quite close by. Airport transfer to Patong takes about 300 - 400 Baht, go look for the metered taxi counter outside the airport. At least you know you are paying as your travel, not just ridiculous inflated rate. However, if you do want to take a regular taxi, get the driver's number and name and bargain with him, use him for your daily travels and you might get a better rate if you promise to use his services againt. a metered taxi driver can do the same as well. However, just get a quote from the hotel regarding the transfer rates to compare. Hotel transfer might be more convenient as well as you don't need to bargain.

The best way is to arrange with your hotel/resort to pick you up at the airport or take a taxi from the airport to Khao Lak. A taxi from Phuket airport to Khao Lak costs between 1100 and 1600 baht. If you think this is too much and prefer to take a bus, you will have to get to the main road about 3 kilometers from the airport. Hop on a bus headed towards Takua Pa, Ranong or Surat Thani, they all stop in Khao Lak.

Make them use the meter or take a different taxi. Patong beach is lively and fun place but some way from Phuket town and from the airport. I know a tour guide in Phuket who books hotels and shows and would be able to get a discount of 33% on what the tourists will be paying. I would trust him with my life if that helps.
