When we turn the water on in our house, hot or cold, the pipes in the basement sound like a Motorboat. This continues for as long as the water is running. Ive been told its one of the valves in the toilet but I shut both vales off with no change. If a faucet is open and the noise is continuing, it sometimes stops if another valve is turned on. We have public water, not a well pump.
Answer: First I think you are in the wrong topic but your problem is air in the pipes. To remove the air turn off the water to the house. Open a faucet at both the highest and lowest level to have all the water drain out. Close the lowest faucet and slowly turn the water back on so that it starts coming out of the upper faucet. It will "spit" as it pushed the air out. Then obviously close the faucet and flush the toilets once or twice to clear them out as well. the sound should be gone.
