The double downs are healthier than a lot of cheeseburgers out there. Just don't eat more than one at a time and don't eat em more than one or twice a week and you'll be fine.

Answer: It's been around for almost a year around here. It's ok. It's a lot smaller than it appears on the pictures. Some people spazed about how "unheatlhy" it is - when in fact it has the same fat and calories than a Big Mac plus a lot more protein. If you get the grilled version, it has less calories than a Big Mac. Also people spazed about the fact that it doesn't have a bun and, God forbid, your fingers had to actually touch the chicken. Well...people everywhere eat fried chicken with their fingers. So it really isn't a big deal. I didin't find it all that interesting, to be honest. I'm prefer their doublicious sandwich - which is pretty much the same thing but only one chicken breast and it's on a bun.

Answer: I don't see what the big deal is either, people eat about 2 pieces of chicken plus mashed potatoes and gravy and a biscuit which probably has more calories totaled than the double down alone.

Answer: Wow - all those answers and none bothered to actually look it up. wow - lazy. Anyway - here is the answer: Yes, the grilled version has fewer calories and a few less grams of fat - here is how it stacks up: Calories: Original - 540 Grilled - 460 Total Fat: Original - 32 grams Grilled - 23 grams Protein: Original - 53 grams Grilled - 61 grams Carbohydrate: Original & Grilled both have 1 gram of carbohydrate This isn't a diet-meal by any stretch of the imagination. But it isn't any worse than anything else out put out by the Fast Food companies. The Big Mac has the same calories and about the same grams of fat - but people aren't having a drama fit over that. Subway even has some 6" subs with more calories than the Double Down - the 6" Feast sub has 550 calories and the 6" Chicken, Bacon, Ranch has 570 calories and 28 grams of fat. That is MORE fat and MORE calories than the grilled double down - even before adding cheese and sauces!!! The key is portion size. The Double Down is just not that big of a sandwich. Who really has not eaten two pieces of fried chicken when eating a fried chicken meal? It isn't exactly unheard of. So KFC is loving all the hype - the more you talk about it, the bigger the buzz about it and the more people will be thinking about KFC. So their advertising is working. But people really need to get a grip about this - al lthe effort and drama they are putting into saying bad things about it and they don't even know the facts surrounding the issue. If they want to discourage someone from eating unhealthy food - they should target the stuff that people eat every day without thinking about it. Take a milkshake for example - a large chocolate milkshake often has more fat and calories than any of the big sandwiches offered at FF places. And FF breakfasts are total nightmares - usually topping the list of fat and calories.

Besides high blood pressure and kidney stones, I love the double down; its the only fast food sandwhich I have ever wanted to eat. Whopper, big mac, and quarter pounders are more unhealthy than the double down. Grease and fat are bad arguments because other burgers and regular fried chicken have a lot of grease and fat.
Answer: its a sandwhich that replaces bread with meat, and uses cheese where most sandwhiches would have meat. and you could have just said 1 g of sodium.

Why is the KFC DOUBLE DOWN called a double down?

Perhaps I understand the double part because its two of everything, two bacons, two pieces of chicken and two pieces of cheese, but I still dont understand why its called that..
Answer: Back in 1967 when I was thinkin of new recipes and menu's for KFC, I finally created a good meal, I didn't have a name for it, so I named it The Double Down. It has used this name ever since. How many pieces of KFC chicken equals a Double Down?

I have friends who say how gross the Kfc double down is and how its unhealthy and they would never eat one, yet these same people will tear into a bucket of KFC original recipe and pretty well destroy it all by themselves. This doesnt make sense to me. How many pieces of chicken equals that Double Down for fat and calories? Cant be very many, can it? Why do these chicks think a DD is horrible but 5 or 6 pieces of chicken is fine?! Or are they right and me wrong?
Answer: The double down is a lot smaller than what most people think it is. It is 'just' two SMALL breaded chicken breasts, cheese, 1 slice of bacon and sauce. The double down has 510 calories if ordered in original recipe and only 380 calories if you order it grilled. If you compare it to their regular chicken - it's equivalent to 2 original recipe chicken thighs (2 at 250 calories each) Or equal to 1 original recipe chicken breast and one drumstick. (360 + 120 = 480 calories) It has the fewer calories than any of the large sandwiches from other Fast Food places. Here is a comparison: Kfc double down - original recipe: 510 calories Kfc double down - grilled 380 calories McDonalds Big Mac: 540 calories Burger King Whopper (no cheese) 670 calories So when you actually look at the numbers - it's not all that bad. For some reason, some overly emotional people have this reaction to the Double Down. They condemn it without knowing the facts. People lie all the time about the Big Mac and McDonald's food, too. They think the Big Mac is something evil - when in reality it is the largest of the signature sandwiches from any of the Fast Food chains with the fewest calories.
